National Review’s John Derbyshire is serious: America ought to turn back women’s suffrage

[Warning to Sensible Types: --MAY CAUSE JAW DROPPING AND HAIR TEARING--]

Many thanks to Think Progress and Alan Colmes for the interview and post. But many more thanks to John Derbyshire himself for being so shockingly dense, oblivious and backwards that he provides a shining indictment of why Conservatism is a pathetic crock of shit.

What can you say of an idiot that would repeal the Nineteenth Amendment of 1920, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965? The classic partisanship-until-you-die-of-stupidity on proud display here is like catnip to the right wing. It’s the abyss of obstinate stupidity for the rest of us–fathom it if you dare…

Alan: What is the case against female suffrage?

John: Well the conservative case against it is that, is that women lean hard to the left. They, uh, they want someone to, to nurture, they want someone to help raise their kids, and if men aren’t inclined to do it, which in the present days they’re not much, then they’d like the state to do it for them.

A: Well, do you think women should not vote?

J: Uhh…I’m not putting forward a political program, here, I’m trying to change attitudes, Alan, you know?

A: Well, when you say ‘The Case Against Female Suffrage,’ the suggestion is that them voting would not be the best thing for you.

J: Among the hopes that I do not realistically nurse is the hope that female suffrage will be repealed.

There are so many things to shred in this entire clip, I could spend a huge post on it, but I won’t.

1). You notice how he qualifies his case against women’s suffrage as the ‘conservative case’? That’s because ‘reality’ doesn’t matter. The case ‘in reality’ against women having the right to vote is obviously a horrible joke that doesn’t need detailing to anybody here. Among Conservatives, however, it’ll be forever the sort of thing they could write books about, hold conventions over. A pack of Boba Fett wannabes at a Comic Con are better equipped to make decisions for the nation than these idiots.

Newsmax’ John L. Perry warns U.S. military is coming to remove the ‘problem’ of Barack Obama / UPDATE: recovered full text of ’seditious’ post Newsmax deleted

[...also see Crooks and Liars, Think Progress, TPM, and Salon]

I had the post, then that damn virus acted up and I lost it, then Newsmax deleted it because it’s violently insane, then I manged to skulk around the internet and recover it.

John L. Perry tackles his ‘Obama problem’ by ignoring an entire third branch of government uniquely charged with figuring out whether goings-on are ‘unconstitutional’. He merely calls out a massive military coup. What an intelligent, loyal American. What a great Conservative.

Obama Risks a Domestic Military ‘Intervention’
September 29, 2009 | John L. Perry

There is a remote, although gaining, possibility America’s military will intervene as a last resort to resolve the “Obama problem.” Don’t dismiss it as unrealistic.

national guard life photoAmerica isn’t the Third World. If a military coup does occur here it will be civilized. That it has never happened doesn’t mean it wont. Describing what may be afoot is not to advocate it. So, view the following through military eyes:

-Officers swear to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” Unlike enlisted personnel, they do not swear to “obey the orders of the president of the United States.”

-Top military officers can see the Constitution they are sworn to defend being trampled as American institutions and enterprises are nationalized.

-They can see that Americans are increasingly alarmed that this nation, under President Barack Obama, may not even be recognizable as America by the 2012 election, in which he will surely seek continuation in office.

-They can see that the economy — ravaged by deficits, taxes, unemployment, and impending inflation — is financially reliant on foreign lender governments.

-They can see this president waging undeclared war on the intelligence community, without whose rigorous and independent functions the armed services are rendered blind in an ever-more hostile world overseas and at home.

-They can see the dismantling of defenses against missiles targeted at this nation by avowed enemies, even as America’s troop strength is allowed to sag.

-They can see the horror of major warfare erupting simultaneously in two, and possibly three, far-flung theaters before America can react in time.

-They can see the nation’s safety and their own military establishments and honor placed in jeopardy as never before.

So, if you are one of those observant military professionals, what do you do?

Wait until this president bungles into losing the war in Afghanistan, and Pakistan’s arsenal of nuclear bombs falls into the hands of militant Islam?

Conservatives’ inability to deal with gruesome Sparkman murder continues: ‘He was probably killed by illegal immigrants’

How much longer will it be before ACORN will have killed Bill? Days? Hours?

Dead Census worker: Victim of open borders?
Roger Hedgecock
Posted: September 28, 2009

Two weeks ago, Census taker Bill Sparkman died choking, hands and feet bound, hanging naked from a tree in a remote site in Daniel Boone National Forest in Clay County, Ky. Someone had scrawled “fed” on his chest with a felt-tipped pen.

Last week, Sparkman’s death became fodder for more attacks on “right-wing violence.” Bloggers wanted to “send the body to Glenn Beck,” and a Time magazine piece speculated that Sparkman was a victim of the culture of another McCain-voting Southern state

Now it looks more like Sparkman was yet another victim of illegal drug operations on national forest land, and possibly also a victim of our still open border with Mexico.

Taking the Census in our national forests is dangerous business. Law enforcement sources say meth labs and marijuana plantations are “prevalent” in the area of Sparkman’s death. Did he stumble across a drug operation in the Daniel Boone National Forest? No one is saying for sure, but the locals believe it…

Our open border with Mexico has been changing American society in a number of unpleasant ways. These fires, these destroyed national forest lands, and maybe even Bill Sparkman’s death, may just be the latest way.

So now it’s wild-eyed drug pushers. But not the white American ones, the brown Mexican ones. This latest story I don’t find very compelling given that illegal immigrants, even, or especially, the ones running drug operations, are very wary of police and the government. When law enforcement drops by, they run.

And when it’s some harmless guy from the Census Bureau, they don’t abduct, kill and hang him. And then write ‘fed’ on the body. That’s a particularly lurid, public message that doesn’t really serve a foreign drug operation. Perhaps Mexican drug-dealer/manufacturers in Mexico, maybe, but not here.

This murder really looks like an act of rage, and Conservatives just refuse to admit they have had a hand in pouring gasoline on already-present anti-government feelings in that part of Kentucky. I don’t imagine the moonshining days are all that far back. Instead, they’re going to keep coming up with ever-more preposterous scenarios, some that obscenely blame the blameless Sparkman for his own murder because, frankly, these right-wingers are cowards.

If it does turn out to be some paranoid ‘Federal Government Rapes and Kills!’ lunatic, watch them pile on that the killer was actually a hard core liberal. Yes, they are that dumb and shameless.

Conservative webscum begin to blame the defenseless, the dead: ‘Was Census Worker Bill Sparkman A Child Predator?’

Why wouldn’t somebody understandably enraged at a child molester plan and follow him to some far-flung precinct, abduct him, bind his hands and feet, kill him, strip his body naked, hang it from a tree, and scrawl ‘fed’ across his belly? Slap his census i.d. to his side? It’s all so simple.

So many questions…

>Was Census Worker Bill Sparkman A Child Predator?
Riehl World View
Sunday, September 27, 2009

UPDATE: Before any more people start going bonkers that I’m accusing Sparkman of anything, take a breath. I’ve done a fair amount of crime blogging mixed in with politics over time. One doesn’t rule anything in or out without some firm answers. People feel free to speculate about Meth labs and pot fields but none have been reported in the area, yet. All I’m doing is looking at any and all possibilities. You’d think a moonshiner, or Meth head would have just buried the guy. Why hang him and invite the Feds into it by writing Fed on his chest? Why strip him naked and bind and gag him, which has serious sexual overtones?

I have no idea what happened, but from the reporting I’ve seen, neither does anyone else. If he adopted a boy as a single man, or was married and split with the wife and kids, who knows. But I never assume I know a story or motive until I know it. Right now we don’t. I’m simply speculating on one possible alternative, however impolite.

Someone may as well say it given some peculiar details. The strangest quote I’ve seen in all the reporting around apparently murdered Census worker Bill Sparkman is this one from his Mother located in Florida.

“I have my own ideas, but I can’t say them out loud. Not at this point,” she said. “Right now, what I’m doing, I’m just waiting on the FBI to come to some conclusion.”

She didn’t say she had been advised not to speculate. Being in Florida she has nothing to fear from Kentucky locals, so why the secrecy? Add that to the somewhat mysterious way this case is being revealed by authorities and whatever is behind it, I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s another surprise in store here.

The condition of the body and his being naked also seems curious. Why strip someone down to their socks only to kill them? Finally Sparkman’s bio and work history suggests at the least he was not just your average guy. No teaching degree, no full-time means of employment and no wife or kids so far as I am aware. But he certainly did gravitate towards children. I can’t help but wonder if this wasn’t a revenge killing disguised to look like something else. If he did have issues in this regard and messed with the wrong kid, it isn’t as if something like that can be ruled out until we know more.

Sparkman’s mother, Henrie Sparkman of Inverness, Fla., told The Associated Press her son was an Eagle scout who moved to the area to be a local director for the Boy Scouts of America. She said he later became a substitute teacher in Laurel County and supplemented that income as a Census worker.

There also seems to be a huge number of small unnamed cemeteries in that area. I haven’t even seen the name of the cemetery he was found in released. Interesting case, if nothing else. But I’m far from certain it has any political ramifications.

10 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Rielle Hunter

While the Edwards-will-soon-admit-paternity watch goes on, and the tell-all book is on the way, the woman who would’ve destroyed a Presidential campaign goes on subsisting in the shadows. Thought it’d be timely to post some of her bio highlights–she’s no shrinking violet, for sure. It’s not surprising at all that she ended up where she did.

10 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Rielle Hunter

1.) Rielle Hunter is not her name, it’s Lisa Jo Druck. ‘Hunter’ came from her first marriage, and ‘Rielle’ she just made up.

2.) Her father was a notorious fraudster. James Druck participated in a scheme to electrocute show horses in order to collect big money insurance claims. The Horse Murders scandal was one of the ‘biggest, most gruesome stories in sports.’ He died while the FBI was still investigating him.

3.) Lisa was a top-notch jumper. Her career ended at 17 when her father killed her beloved show jumper, Henry the Hawk, in order to collect a $150,000 claim. Which he did.

4.) She’s a former girlfriend of ‘Brat Pack’ novelist Jay McInerney.

5.) She’s the inspiration for both McInerney’s and Bret Easton Ellis’ ubiquitous Alison Poole character.

[Story of My Life] is narrated in the first-person from the point of view of Alison Poole, “an ostensibly jaded, cocaine-addled, sexually voracious 20-year old.” Alison is originally from Virginia and lives in Manhattan, where she is involved in several sexual relationships and is aspiring to become an actress. She falls in love with bond trader and Shakespeare expert Dean, but soon they betray each other. The novel implies that the cause of protagonist Alison Poole’s “party girl” behavior is her father’s abuse, including the murder of her prize jumping horse.

6.) After she married wealthy attorney ‘Kip’ Hunter, he financed a play for her to star in, ‘Savage in Limbo.’

7.) They later moved to Beverly Hills so she could pursue an acting career. She has appeared in a few movies, including Ricochet.’ They divorced in 2000.

8.) She started Midline Groove Productions, a New Jersey based media company. They produced 4 online videos for the Edwards campaign and were paid $100,000. Originally titled ‘Inspiring Politics: A Webisode Series Following John Edwards’, the clips were removed from YouTube after the hot controversy but have since been restored:

9.) She appeared before a Raleigh, North Carolina, grand jury in August that is investigating, in part, an additional $14,000 in payments the Edwards campaign made to her after they became aware that she was pregnant, likely with Edwards’ child.

10.) She and Edwards originally randomly came across each other outside of a hotel in New York. She greeted him by saying ‘You are so hot.’

Former eBay CEO and billionaire Republican running for CA Gov, Meg Whitman, doesn’t vote

After having an actor-politician, a guy who merely looks the part, will California be interested in a politician who actually hates politics? From what I can tell, this business-woman first voted in a Presidential election last year. Maybe.

Whitman grapples with spotty voting record

At the unofficial kickoff Saturday of the 2010 Republican primary campaign for governor, former eBay CEO and political neophyte Meg Whitman struggled to explain her abysmal voting record.

A year ago, The Chronicle reported that Whitman, 53, had not registered as a Republican in California until 2007 and had a spotty voting history for several years in the state before that. Last week, a Sacramento Bee investigation found no evidence of Whitman’s voting before 2002 in several other states where she lived previously.

On Saturday at the state Republican Convention, Whitman – who has never held nor sought political office – did not dispute the report and offered her past response to questions about her voting: “There is no excuse for my voting record. I didn’t vote as often as I should.”

She repeated variations of that response as reporters continued to ask why she hadn’t voted for so many years – especially in light of passages in her speech to the convention.

“I care deeply about this state,” Whitman told the gathering of GOP activists, adding that among voters there is “a profound hunger for change, for leadership and for authenticity. Californians want to trust their leaders again.”

Finally, she simply refused to take further questions about her failure to vote: “That’s all we’re going to say about it,” she declared…

Republican stalwart Robert Stacy McCain is an ‘AIDS-infected’ douchebag

Web Conservative Robert Stacy McCain tragically obsesses over Andrew Sullivan and sings his own praises over deciding to chase the Sparkman story. And he needs you to send him money while he paints his perceived enemies as ‘AIDS-infected.’

UPDATE 1:50 a.m.: Well, folks, it looks like I’m going to be Kentucky-bound to cover this story in person — another one of those double-dog-dare-ya adventures in shoe-leather reporting.

Thanks to TB in North Carolina, BD in Maryland, AL in Rhode Island, a big thanks to JS in Virginia, and a huge thanks to Nathan in Missouri, the Shoe Leather Reporting Fund quickly collected enough to get me to Kentucky and back.

Additional contributions are welcome, to enable me to extend this trip. Just got off the phone with the lady at the desk of a hotel near I-75, about 20 miles from Manchester, Ky. A single room is about $95 per night, tax included. If you figure 2 packs of smokes/day at $5 each, five cups coffee/day at $2 each, continental breakfast comes with the room, so two meals/day at $5 each — the basic daily expenses come to $125. Of course, I’ve got regular bills to pay, but I’ll worry about that later.

Our hero, what an extraordinary challenge. Seven links to his PayPal account, so far.

Just think about Andrew Sullivan sitting there in Pathum, ThailandI’m not kiddinglecturing Michelle Malkin (!) on conservatism:

By the way, there is nothing conservative about Southern populism.

Turns out Andrew–I’m not kidding–might not be in Thailand. And what if he were, what’s so wild about that? McCain is a child.

OK, Sully, enjoy your Thai holiday, while I get my 2004 KIA ready for a 500-mile road trip to Clay County, Kentucky (Monday’s forecast for Manchester, Ky.: High 70F, low 47F, cloudy, 20% chance of rain) and let me show you how it’s done. You just go on back to speculating about Sarah Palin’s uterus and leave Kentucky to me.

C’mon, dear brothers, can I get an “amen“?

CORRECTION: I don’t think Sully’s actually in Thailand. His “View From Your Window” feature seems to be about readers e-mailing him photos of the view from thir windows, rather than his own global photographic travelogue.

My mistake and I’m happy to correct it. Harvard-educated, obstretric-obsessive, AIDS-infected, dope-smoking British immigrants don’t have a monopoly on jumping to incorrect conclusions, you know.

BTW, some people have a crazy hunch this Kentucky thing might involve teenagers and the horrorcore rap scene. Maybe they’re wrong about that, too . . .

I doubt ‘Sully’ knows what ‘obstretric’ or ‘thir’ are, but I know calling him ‘AIDS-infected’ when you get embarrassed rates you for an internet coffin, McCain. Goodbye.

Fox scaremongers video of Jersey’s Bernice elementary rapping about Obama. Angry morons threaten Arkansas’ Bernice elementary.

New Jersey school children ’singing’ a Christian spiritual song? But about Barack Hussein Obama instead of Jesus? Piling praise on the guy just because it’s February, which is Black History Month?

They’re trying to kill the children. Where the fuck did these lyrics come from, mister? There needs to be an investigation, followed by a gutting, and then perhaps a war.

Angry Callers Mistake NWA School for NJ Elementary School

Officials in one Northwest Arkansas elementary school says people across the nation and Canada are calling them, angry about a You Tube video that shows the students singing a song about President Obama. But they say it’s all a case of mistaken identity.

Bernice Young Elementary School in Springdale has been taking angry calls from all over the country from people upset about a You Tube video of B. Bernice Young school kids singing about President Barack Obama. There’s only one problem: it wasn’t the Springdale Bernice Young students doing the singing. The song went something like this: “Red, yellow, black or white, all are equal in his sight. Mmm, mmm, mm! Barack Hussein Obama.”

It was a video that sent Springdale’s Bernice Elementary Principal, Debbie Flora, into a slight panic. “We did not know what they were talking about. We’ve had calls from Texas, Tennessee, Quebec, Maryland. Um, some of them did not use very kind language when they called the school. But they were mostly mad.”

…they were also amazingly stupid and racist: these are straight off the Fox Nation website that hosted the article and video…

Census taker Sparkman’s murder shows Conservatives to be the self-centered scumbags they are

Bill Sparkman was a regular guy. Had a couple children, managed to get them grown up. Worked with the Boy Scouts, worked with kids as a substitute teacher. Also worked for the U.S. Census, probably to help make ends meet. He, unfortunately, also got cancer and fought for his life with regular doses of chemotherapy.

In between sessions of chemo, while working as a census taker near Big Creek, Kentucky, somebody savagely murdered him. Abducted him, gagged him, stripped him naked, bound his hands and feet and hanged his body from a tree. They also marked him, scrawling ‘fed’ across his body and taping his Census Bureau i.d. to his neck.

Immediately, anybody familiar with the hysterical screeching of the right-wing in the wake of the presidency’s changing hands cringed. Conservative paranoia about the census had been boiling for months.

Bachmann’s irrational diatribes about scary stalking Census workers quickly spawned a right-wing movement. During an interview with Bachmann, Fox News’ Glenn Beck said, “Ok, so let me talk about the Census because there’s a lot of people that are concerned with it because they don’t want to fill it out, they’re not comfortable with ACORN members coming to find out all this information, they don’t want to give the government all this kind of information.”

Conservative radio host Neal Boortz told a caller, “Most of the rest of the [Census] information is designed to help the government steal from you in order to pass off your property to the moochers. They’re looters.” Boortz urged his listeners to resist the Census workers. “If somebody comes to my — if a burglar came to your house, are you going to show him where the silverware is?” he asked. “Maybe you will if he pulls out a gun.”

The door-rapping ethnics of ACORN? Stealing? Burglars, guns? That sort of hideous vilification of the census and its workers alone qualifies you as whacko dirtbags. It’s required by the Constitution, jerks.

So now we have to come to grips with this murder, an absolutely shocking event, a nightmare. If it turns out to be the hysterical lashing out of an anti-government/census lunatic, it’d indicate the country has a bigger problem than we’d perhaps like to admit: political hysteria-speech affects ‘regular folks’, to the point of enabling, if not outright stoking, homicide.

And, well, don’t the same mindless Conservatives who run their neon-red-raged mouths know it? What was the response to the silence-of-the-lambs killing of an innocent, mild-mannered census worker? What were they immediately inspired to say? This: ‘You liberals are So Fucking Stupid, HAHA.’ [..more of this post..]
